In addition to posting the backlog of kit log and various updates today since the beginning of February, we also updated the chassis instructions in google sheets to include the proper image file names. As well, we updated the brain kit instructions in google sheets with the most recent bugs that were found. Next kit log we will be revisiting the mega list about progress on all the electronics kits, to see what is remaining to complete.
To share the images that have a subject of interest, we created a page with a gallery on it. There’s a helpful description of the setup, robots used, and more. We decided to start simple first. In the future, we will need to have a better way of organising this so the tags can be seen. You can see the page here: Bowie Imagery.
Today we took a look at some of the old imagery data from Bowie from Summer 2018. There still needs to be work done on this, such as going through all the photos and tagging them if they include a subject of interest. There were two robots collecting imagery data that season. To start off, we worked on a dataset from OG Bowie’s groundcam: 09-08-2018_11-09 (2pm field test). This was Sept. 8th, 2018 – we had a Field Test, then had the beach closing party at Westboro Beach.
65 images were tagged out of a total of 2299. The items included bark, cigarette butts, feather, glass, leaf, misc, pebbles, plastic, seaweed, stick, stone, twig, and twigs.

- Part 5, Step 16 – Rephrase 4x 5 pins, so they can all be cut at once. Had to sand F headers to fit
- Part 5, Step 25 – Two right-most holes for the current sensor
- Part 5, Step 26 – ‘All available pads’, not quite
They are making great progress and finding useful bugs to improve on in the instructions. I think that next week they will be pretty close to getting set with installing the Teensy and Arduino software to program the board with its first blink! Want to see part 1 of the progress? Check it out here
We met with some of the Master’s engineering design group again. Tonight, they performed benchmark analysis on Bowie the robot. We also discussed in depth the tradeoff predicament version 1.0 of the robot is at with regards to the power of the motors. It was great that they were attentive and understood. We watched some of the videos of the testing of the robot in Summer 2018 to analyse some of the timing of the turns and going forward. At the end, we went through the photos of all 23 iterations of the robot. This was the last piece of project management work – next week is design time!
