3. End effector

Time to build up the end effector on the arm. This is the joint that pivots the end portion of the arm, allowing it to be better angled when positioning to scoop up garbage in the sand.

*Note: If you plan on driving your Bowie around a lot (who wouldn’t?) we recommend blue thread lock on the fastener threads. It’s possible some pieces may require sanding.

Slide the right end pivot mount over the binding post. Look carefully at the orientation of this piece! Each end pivot has a lip with two holes; ensure these are facing out.

Slide the end pivot washer over the F end of the binding post.

Now, screw in the M end of the binding post. It is helpful to have coins or a flathead screwdriver handy to accomplish this. One trick we do is to use two Canadian quarter coins, held at each end of the binding posts. This way one can stabilize it, while the other is being tightened.

Get your end effector hood, and place it on top of your end effector mount. Fasten it to the bracket using 2 x M3 16mm screws.

If you aren’t proceeding to part D immediately, loosely attach the end effector hood plate to the end effector hood using 6 x M3 10mm screws, washers and nuts. If you are proceeding to part D immediately, keep this plate handy to join the end effector and scoop in part D step 2.
